Sensei David Jones (8th dan – hachidan) ISKF Technical Director
ISKF Calgary was founded by Sensei Jones over 30 years ago. His dojo is a full time, custom built establishment that provides classes 7 days a week. With over 250 members and approximately 100 active black belts, the Calgary dojo has a stellar reputation for the quality of traditional karate it offers. Over the years it has produced countless national and international champions in men’s, women’s and junior competition.
Sensei Jones is the Chief Instructor for ISKF Alberta and Chairman of ISKF Canada. These two long standing, not-for-profit organizations each promote the advancement of ISKF karate and fellowship among students across the country. ISKF Alberta sponsors teams to travel to national competition each year and in similar fashion, ISKF Canada fields teams to represent Canada at international events.
Sensei Jonard Corotan (3rd dan – Sandan)
Sensei Jonard Corotan, a 3rd Dan Black Belt, has been immersed in the world of Karate since an early age. He began training at the age of 7, learning the art from his father, Rudy Corotan (a 4th Dan), under the supervision of Sensei Kunio Sasaki, alongside his older brother at their family’s dojo, Nippon Karate, which was founded in the 1970s in Santiago, Isabela.Under his father’s guidance, Sensei Jonard developed a deep passion for Karate, which became a defining aspect of his life, shaping his character, discipline, and dedication to the art. His commitment to Karate enabled him to carry the legacy of Nippon Karate Dojo beyond the Philippines, eventually bringing it to Canada, where it became affiliated with ISKF Canada.Through his leadership and teaching, Sensei Jonard continues to inspire and mentor new generations of Karatekas, passing on the timeless values and techniques of the art to students around the world.


Sensei Sofronio Artezuela (2dan – Nidan)
Sofronio Artezuela stands out as an exemplary practitioner within the Japan Karate Association in the Philippines, demonstrating a strong commitment to both traditional and sport Karate. His ability to blend the foundational principles and philosophies of traditional Karate with the energetic atmosphere of modern competition creates a comprehensive learning experience for his students.Through his steadfast dedication, he motivates Karatekas—practitioners of Karate—to pursue excellence in all areas of their training. Sensei Sofronio effectively encourages his students to honor the rich history of their art while also embracing the stimulating challenges presented by today’s fast-paced environment. His leadership not only cultivates a deep respect for tradition but also inspires a vibrant spirit of competitiveness and personal growth among his students. Following his move to Canada, he took the initiative to join ISKF Canada and collaborate with Jonard to establish the Nippon Karate Dojo, enriching the Karate community further.
